Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers in the Pulmonology Unit has examined respiratory alkalosis, which is one of the four basic disturbances to the acid-base equilibrium. The study focused on patients with hypoxemic respiratory failure who were receiving non-invasive mechanical ventilation. The researchers found that persistent primary respiratory alkalosis in these patients could be a risk factor for non-invasive ventilation failure. Despite a positive initial response to the ventilation, some patients required an increase in respiratory support. This research provides valuable insights into the troubleshooting and prognostic relevance of respiratory alkalosis in acute hypoxemic patients. [Extracted from the article]
