Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by Sciensano has provided new insights into the relationship between obesity and diabetes. The study found that overweight individuals are at a higher risk for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which affect nearly 60% of all adults in Europe. The researchers used a g-computation approach to assess the impact of hypothetical weight reduction scenarios on NCDs in Belgium. The study concluded that implementing weight reduction interventions among individuals with excess weight could lead to a significant decrease in the prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and musculoskeletal diseases in Belgium. This research provides valuable information for policymakers and offers a straightforward approach for drawing causal inferences from observational data. [Extracted from the article]
