Abstrakt: Triplefins, a type of fish found in coastal ecosystems in Aotearoa New Zealand, are acting as "canaries" to warn of the impacts of pollution. Research has shown that triplefins living closer to urban areas consume more microplastics and experience cognitive damage due to habitat loss. New research has also found that light pollution, known as "skyglow," affects triplefin growth patterns and their ability to forage. These findings highlight the challenges faced by coastal ecosystems and the need to address pollution, including light pollution, to protect marine life. [Extracted from the article]
