Abstrakt: This article, published in the European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, explores the use of benzimidazole-derivatized ligands and their mononuclear iron(III) complexes as catalysts for hydrolyzing organophosphate pesticides. Organophosphates are commonly used in crop protection, but their toxicity necessitates the use of catalysts for efficient degradation. The study investigates the catalytic role of benzimidazole groups through experimental and computational methods, such as DFT calculations. The findings highlight the importance of incorporating aromatic-nucleophilic groups in the second coordination sphere and optimizing side chain length to enhance phosphoesterase activity. The full research article provides more detailed information on the topic. [Extracted from the article]
