A 76-year-old woman was referred to a dermatology clinic with a suspicious lesion on her scalp. The lesion had been slowly growing over the course of 7 months and had become tender. After examination and biopsies, the diagnosis was confirmed as high-grade angiosarcoma, a rare and aggressive skin cancer. The patient did not have any known risk factors for the disease. Treatment options for localized disease include excision with wide margins, but recurrence and metastasis are common. The prognosis for angiosarcoma is often poor, with a 5-year survival rate of less than 15%. Coagulopathy has been associated with angiosarcoma, and further studies are needed to explore this link. Early diagnosis is crucial for a better prognosis. [Extracted from the article] |
