A recent study conducted by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke explored the feasibility and acceptability of a medium chain triglyceride-supplemented ketogenic diet (MCT-KD) in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). The study involved a one-week in-hospital, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled diet followed by a two-week open-label extension at home. The results showed that the MCT-KD was feasible and acceptable to PD patients, with participants expressing willingness to continue the diet. However, further research is needed to understand the effects of the MCT-KD on symptoms and the progression of the disease. [Extracted from the article] |
