A new report from Syrian Private University explores the association between depressive and anxiety symptoms among Syrian patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) undergoing biological treatment. The study found that 49.5% of the 103 patients showed clinically significant depressive symptoms, and 36.9% showed clinically significant anxiety symptoms. Factors such as job layoff, hip pain, history of mental distress, poor quality of life, severe fatigue, and high frequency of sleep disturbance were identified as predictive factors for depressive and anxiety symptoms. The study emphasizes the importance of screening for depression and anxiety in the comprehensive management of AS, even in the context of concurrent biological treatment.
