A study conducted at University Hospital in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, examined the natural history of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in patients who had undergone solid organ transplantation (SOT). The study found that one-third of patients with pre-existing IBD and about half of patients with de novo IBD experienced disease progression after SOT. Risk factors for IBD progression included active IBD at the time of SOT and the presence of extraintestinal manifestations. This research provides valuable insights into the outcomes of IBD in SOT patients and highlights the importance of managing IBD in this population. [Extracted from the article] |
