A recent study conducted in Maharashtra, India, examined the prescribing patterns of antimicrobials used in surgical procedures in a tertiary care hospital. The study found that antimicrobials are commonly prescribed during surgical procedures, with an average of three antimicrobials being prescribed per patient. Cephalosporins were the most commonly prescribed group of antimicrobials. The study also revealed that a significant percentage of antimicrobials were prescribed from outside the hospital source. The researchers concluded that there is room for improvement in the prescribing patterns of antimicrobials to achieve rational and cost-effective use. [Extracted from the article] |
