Professor Dr. Peter Loskill and Dr. Silke Riegger of the University of Tubingen have been awarded the 2024 Ursula M. Handel Animal Welfare Prize by the DFG. The researchers have developed organ-on-chip systems as alternatives to animal models, which have contributed significantly to improving animal welfare in research. The organ-on-chip systems simulate the functions of organs and can be used in experiments on various diseases. The prize, endowed with €80,000, will be awarded at a symposium in Wurzburg on June 6th.
