Abstrakt: A new report from VID Specialized University explores the experience of dementia for people in Nigeria, specifically focusing on the role of faith and prayer in their lives. The study conducted interviews with 17 older individuals with dementia in a Yoruba-speaking community in Southwestern Nigeria. The findings reveal that prayer serves as a space for active participation and cognitive reframing, as well as providing social interaction and support. The research highlights the importance of religious practices in accepting their situations, finding hope, and contributing to the community. This study contributes to the limited literature on the social aspects and everyday experiences of living with dementia in Africa, and it is the first of its kind in Nigeria.
