The Welsh section B has been classified as "rare" for the first time due to a decline in breeding numbers, according to the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST). The RBST uses a traffic-light system to identify breeds of most and least concern, with "priority" (red), "at risk" (amber), and "UK breeds" (green). The RBST and the Welsh Pony & Cob Society (WPCS) are working together to reverse the decline and promote the breed. Other breeds, such as the New Forest, Dartmoor, and Exmoor, have shown positive trends and improvements in genetic diversity. The RBST emphasizes the importance of breeding programs and conservation activities for rare breeds. [Extracted from the article] |
