The Welsh section B has been classified as "rare" for the first time due to a decline in breeding numbers, according to the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST). The RBST uses a traffic-light system to identify breeds of most and least concern, with "priority" (red), "at risk" (amber), and "UK breeds" (green). The RBST and the Welsh Pony & Cob Society (WPCS) are working together to reverse the decline and promote the breed.
