| Abstrakt: | The article focuses on the concept of "lafz" (utterance) and its relation to language and the poetic, matter and the social, and the act it occasions. Topics include Ibn Manzụ̄r's definition of lafz as a material practice involving the expulsion of matter, al-Jāhịz's discussion of lafz as the instrument of utterance and its relation to language and sociality, and the understanding of language as a collective form of linguistic life in relation to intention and poetic practic. |
