This article, published in the journal Endoscopy, examines the diagnostic efficacy of endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue acquisition (EUS-TA) for suspected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The study analyzed a cohort of 109 patients who underwent EUS-TA tests, with 81.6% of cases confirmed as PDAC after the initial attempt. The remaining 18.3% of patients had inconclusive results on the first attempt, but a second attempt using fine-needle biopsy (FNB) was 100% diagnostic. The study concludes that a negative EUS-TA result on the first attempt does not exclude malignancy, and recommends a second attempt with FNB needles to improve diagnostic yield.
