This article, published in the journal Endoscopy, discusses the performance of colonoscopy following an episode of acute diverticulitis. The study, conducted over a 5-year period, included 70 patients who underwent colonoscopy after experiencing acute diverticulitis. The results showed that colonoscopy did not reveal any lesions in 72% of cases, and only one patient had colorectal neoplasia. The study suggests that colonoscopy may not be necessary for uncomplicated diverticulitis cases, and should be limited to complicated forms and individuals at risk of colorectal cancer.
