This article discusses a randomized controlled trial comparing the accuracy of autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) versus AI-assisted human optical diagnosis of colorectal polyps during colonoscopies. The trial involved 467 patients and found that the overall accuracy for optical diagnosis did not significantly differ between the two groups. However, the autonomous AI system had higher agreement with pathology-based surveillance intervals. The study suggests that current AI systems can be used without human input for strategies such as resect-and-discard and diagnose-and-leave. [Extracted from the article] |
