This article discusses a novel therapeutic approach for treating gastric varices (GV), which are associated with severe bleeding. The approach involves using a combination of cyanoacrylate (CYA) and coils to target the feeder vessel or afferent component of the varices. The study, conducted over eight years, found that this approach had a high technical success rate and a low recurrence rate. Immediate disappearance of varices was a significant predictive factor for non-recurrence. The study also found that previous treatment with B-blockers was associated with a lower recurrence rate, while previous CYA attempts increased the risk of recurrence. Overall, the study suggests that EUS-guided coils and CYA can be an effective treatment for GV. [Extracted from the article] |
