Abstrakt: This article discusses the incidence of missed polyps in patients participating in the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) in the Cheshire region of the UK. The study found that almost a third of all polyps detected were missed, and one in twenty of these were significant polyps, which put patients at a higher risk for colorectal cancer (CRC). Men had a higher missed polyp rate compared to women, and the quality of bowel preparation during the colonoscopy procedure was found to be a factor in missed polyps. The article emphasizes the need to improve practice to reduce miss rates and decrease CRC risk, suggesting the use of antispasmodics, position changes during the procedure, and the introduction of artificial intelligence in polyp detection as potential solutions.
