A recent study conducted at the University of Health Sciences in Bursa, Turkey, aimed to investigate the risk factors for postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in pediatric patients undergoing appendectomy. The study involved 163 children aged 5 to 18 years who underwent appendectomy between December 2022 and June 2023. The researchers found that the severity of postoperative pain, family history of PONV, and appendix perforation were risk factors for PONV in children with both nonperforated and perforated appendicitis. The study suggests that pediatric nurses should evaluate patients for PONV risk and provide appropriate interventions based on the degree of risk. [Extracted from the article] |
