A systematic review conducted by researchers at the University of Chicago found that cancer patients have suboptimal vaccination rates, which puts them at a higher risk of preventable infections and increased morbidity and mortality. The review analyzed thirteen studies published between 2014 and 2022 that investigated quality improvement interventions to enhance vaccine uptake in cancer patients. The interventions, which focused on influenza and pneumococcal vaccines, aimed to enhance patient and family knowledge and identify eligible patients before appointments. All studies demonstrated improved vaccine uptake after implementing the interventions. The researchers recommend further research to address implementation roadblocks and explore the effect of these interventions on other vaccines. [Extracted from the article] |
