A recent study conducted by researchers at the Medical University of Innsbruck focuses on the science behind psilocybin, the natural hallucinogen found in magic mushrooms. The study explores the potential of psilocybin for treating depression and other mental health conditions. The researchers discovered the role of a specific enzyme, PsiM, in the biosynthetic pathway of psilocybin. The study's findings provide valuable insights into the methylation mechanism of PsiM and could aid in the development of novel variants of psilocybin with improved therapeutic properties. The full study can be accessed in Nature Communications. [Extracted from the article] |
