A recent study conducted in Malaga, Spain, examined the rate of severe and fatal infections in patients with rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD). The study followed 148 patients with RA-ILD for a median of 56.7 months and found that 96% of patients experienced at least one infection during this period. Respiratory infections, particularly caused by SARS CoV-2, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and influenza A virus, were the most common and often fatal. The study highlights the high risk of serious infection in patients with RA-ILD and emphasizes the importance of integrated and preventive medical care. [Extracted from the article] |
