Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at the University of Louisville examined changes in mitochondrial respiration in the maternal heart during pregnancy and after birth. The researchers found that there were increases in heart size during all stages of pregnancy and post-birth compared to non-pregnant mice. They also observed changes in mitochondrial transcripts and an increased capacity for energy sources in the postpartum heart. These findings suggest that maternal cardiac mitochondria have an increased ability to use certain energy sources after birth. [Extracted from the article]
