A study conducted by the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil compared the angulation and eruption status of third molars in patients with Class I and II malocclusions who underwent orthodontic treatment with and without first premolar extractions. The study found that extraction treatment resulted in more favorable angulations and a greater number of erupted third molars compared to non-extraction treatment. The non-extraction groups had a higher percentage of unerupted third molars. This research provides new insights into the effects of different orthodontic treatments on third molar development.
