A new report from the University of Santo Amaro presents fresh data on cytokines. The research focuses on thymic B cells and their potential role in regulating atopy induced by the mite Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Der p). The study found that polyclonal IgG derived from Der p-atopic individuals can modulate non-atopic thymic B cells, potentially generating cells prone to allergy development. These effects were not observed in mature B cells. The findings suggest a potential link between IgG produced in allergic individuals and the development of allergies in non-atopic individuals.
