A recent study conducted at the University of Baghdad examined the relationship between benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and urinary tract infections (UTIs) in patients undergoing transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). The study found that some patients who underwent TURP were at risk of developing UTIs due to uropathogenic bacteria. Risk factors for post-TURP bacteriuria included positive pre-operative culture analysis, diabetes, preoperative catheterization, and prolonged operation duration. The study emphasizes the importance of thorough risk evaluation and customized preventative measures to reduce infection risks among BPH patients undergoing TURP. [Extracted from the article] |
