Abstrakt: A recent report from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine highlights the role of microglia, resident immune cells in the retina, in the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR). The researchers found that microglia activation in the early stages of DR involves a shift in metabolic pathways and rearrangement of the oxidation-reduction (redox) system. This redox adaptation supports metabolic reprogramming and suggests potential therapeutic strategies using antioxidants. The study emphasizes the importance of targeting microglial redox metabolism for the treatment of DR. [Extracted from the article]
