A recent study conducted at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore focused on the successful treatment of a case of blastomycosis endocarditis, a fungal infection that originated in the right lung and spread to other areas of the body, including the pericardium and mitral valve. The 22-year-old patient presented with symptoms such as pneumonia, fevers, night sweats, rib pain, and weight loss. After a four-week treatment with liposomal amphotericin followed by oral itraconazole, the patient experienced complete resolution of the infection. This research provides valuable insights into the treatment of blastomycosis endocarditis. [Extracted from the article] |
