This literature review explores the effects of chewing betel nuts on dental health in Indonesia. Chewing betel nuts, a cultural tradition known as "nginang," is popular in Indonesia and has social significance. While some believe it offers benefits like a smoking-like sensation and improved dental health, evidence shows that it can cause severe damage to teeth. Issues such as calculus, periodontitis, attrition, and tooth loss may occur due to this habit. The article recommends promoting tooth brushing to maintain the tradition without risking further teeth damage. [Extracted from the article] |
