Abstrakt: |
Rabies is a fatal zoonotic encephalitic disease which is hundred per cent vaccine-preventable. Regarded as one of the oldest zoonotic disease known to humankind, it still remains a neglected tropical disease in the developing nations. According to the World Health Organization report of 2018, approximately 59,000 individuals succumb to rabies annually, translating to one person every nine minutes with 40 per cent of the victims being kids from Asia and Africa. Baring a handful of Indian states, none of the other states has a comprehensive approach towards rabies control and its possible elimination. Lack of mass awareness and negligence are significant hurdles in achieving the goal of global dog-mediated human rabies elimination by 2030. Until now comprehensive research on animal rabies remains unexplored in Assam. With a substantial forest cover of 26,832 sq km, accounting for 34.21 per cent of the state’s total land area, Assam faces significant challenges due to its abundant wildlife and dense human population [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
