Abstrakt: This article examines the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). The study found that the number of intravitreal injections (IVI) of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) decreased during the COVID-19 lockdowns, potentially affecting the treatment benefits for nAMD patients. However, the study also found that patients treated during the pandemic had a better treatment response compared to those treated before the pandemic. The study suggests that prioritizing patients with acute treatment needs during the lockdown may have contributed to this improvement. The article emphasizes the importance of timely treatment for nAMD and highlights the decrease in patient referrals during the lockdown, which may lead to a "rebound" of patients seeking treatment post-COVID-19.
