The article discusses the feasibility of a project called FairEmbo, which aims to reduce maternal mortality caused by postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) in low-income countries. The project proposes using absorbable surgical sutures as a cost-effective alternative to expensive embolic agents for the treatment of PPH. The article presents the successful treatment of three patients with PPH using embolization of the uterine arteries with surgical sutures. The procedure was effective in achieving complete obstruction of the targeted vessels, and the patients experienced rapid recovery with no major complications. The article concludes that embolization with absorbable suture fragments is a feasible and effective treatment for PPH. [Extracted from the article] |
