A study conducted by researchers at VSB-Technical University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic explores the impact of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) on aquatic environments. The study highlights the presence of pharmaceutical contaminants in wastewater and the ineffectiveness of conventional wastewater treatment processes in removing these emerging pollutants. NSAIDs, specifically analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs, are identified as the most common pharmaceutical contaminants in wastewater. The research aims to provide a comprehensive review of the occurrence, environmental effects, metabolites formation, and removal methods of NSAIDs in aquatic environments, with a focus on current trends and future research directions.
