A recent study conducted in Shizuoka, Japan, has reported a case of pulmonary cryptococcosis suspected to be caused by the inhalation of swallow excreta. The study focused on a 70-year-old woman who had been treated with methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis. The woman experienced respiratory symptoms and was diagnosed with multiple infiltrative shadows in her lungs. Treatment with fluconazole was successful in resolving her symptoms. This case is unique as there have been no previous reports of pulmonary cryptococcosis suspected to be caused by inhalation of swallow excreta. [Extracted from the article] |
