Researchers from Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic have conducted a study on the medicinal plant Schisandra chinensis, which is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. The researchers isolated a series of compounds called dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans from the plant and evaluated their anti-inflammatory effects. They found that several of these lignans showed antioxidant activity and affected intercellular communication. The study concluded that certain lignans, including (-)-gomisin N, (+)-g-schisandrin, rubrisandrin A, and (-)-gomisin J, exhibited anti-inflammatory activity. This research provides valuable insights into the potential therapeutic applications of Schisandra chinensis in treating inflammatory conditions. [Extracted from the article] |
