Abstrakt: A study conducted by Johns Hopkins University has found that people living with HIV (PWH) in India have a higher prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) due to shared routes and risk factors for transmission. Men who have sex with men (MSM) are particularly at risk for both HBV and HIV, which increases their risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. The study revealed that the prevalence of HBV among MSM living with HIV in 12 Indian cities was 8%, with certain factors such as age, employment status, sexual behaviors, and history of sex work influencing the odds of HBV infection. The researchers recommend integrating HBV and HIV programs for MSM populations to address this dual burden and improve outcomes for both infections. [Extracted from the article]
