Abstrakt: A study conducted by researchers at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, explored the association between retinal vascular network changes and cognitive impairment. The study examined participants from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) who had retinal photographs, cognitive testing, and MRI scans. The findings revealed that greater complexity of the branching pattern of retinal arteries, known as arteriolar fractal dimension (FD), was associated with less neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. This research provides new insights into the relationship between retinal vascular measures and cognitive performance and neuroimaging biomarkers. [Extracted from the article]
