Abstrakt: The article "Taking the New Year's Resolution Test seriously: eliciting individuals' judgments about self-control and spontaneity" explores the concept of self-control failure and its implications for public policy. The authors conducted an online survey to investigate individuals' attitudes towards self-control and spontaneity in conflicts between immediate enjoyment and long-term health goals. The findings suggest that judgments favoring spontaneity were expressed with similar frequency and strength as judgments favoring self-control. The study highlights the importance of considering desires for spontaneity as equally deserving of attention as desires for self-control in policy interventions. The article discusses the complexity of self-control and spontaneity and argues for policies that align with individuals' own judgments and desires. [Extracted from the article]
