Pregnancy is a specific and complex period of major biological, psychological and social changes. It is accompanied by changes in metabolism and different adaptive mechanisms. Its main purpose is to provide an energy and nutritional resource for the pregnant woman and the fetus. The correct course of all these processes affects the future development of the newborn. Metabolic syndrome during pregnancy poses a risk for the normal course and outcome of the pregnancy. Obesity, gestational diabetes, arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia and hepatic steatosis, as elements of the metabolic syndrome during pregnancy, require early diagnosis and timely treatment. Monitoring by a multidisciplinary team is necessary for the normal course of pregnancy and its outcome in the presence of metabolic syndrome. This is the only way to guarantee the life and health of the mother and fetus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
