Abstrakt: Introduction: Acute renal failure (ARF) is characterized by injury and rapid decline in kidney function. Creating animal models of kidney damage using dietary adenine supplementation mimics histological changes in renal failure in humans. Considering the antioxidant effects of camel milk (CM) as well as beneficial effect of it in the treatment of various models of renal failure, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of CM on hyperuricemc acute renal injury induced by adenine. Methods and Materials: In this study, 32 male rats were divided into the following groups: 1- control, 2- adenine (280 mg/kg/day), 3-adenine+CM (33 ml/kg/day), 4-adenine+allopurinol (50 mg/kg/day). The duration of study was 9 days. Adenine, CM and allopurinol were administered by gavage. At the end of the study, the kidneys were collected and weighed. The right kidney was kept at 10% formalin for histological examination. Results: Administration of adenine showed significant severe tissue damage compared to the control group (P<0.001). Compared to the adenine group, the percentage of kidney tissue damage in the treatment group with camel milk and allopurinol decreased significantly (P<0.001). Also, the percentage of kidney tissue damage in the adenine group along with allopurinol was also significantly reduced compared to the adenine group (P<0.001). Conclusion: Treatment with CM caused a significant improvement in kidney damage induced by adenine which probably due to its antioxidant effects, as well as the effect of camel milk on reducing serum uric acid concentration and reducing its deposition in the kidney. In this study, the beneficial effects of camel milk were less compared to allopurinol. Therefore, camel milk as a healthy nutritional source can be useful against acute renal injury induced by hyperuricemia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
