Hardening by cold plastic deformation by torsion combined with low-temperature heat treatment was studied using the example of two alloys: TC6 and VT 23 in the hardened state. Alloy TS6 refers to pseudo β alloys, and VT 23 to (α + β) alloys. In hardened alloys, plastic deformation initiates the martensitic transformation of the metastable β phase. The hardening efficiency was estimated from the torsion and tension diagrams of the samples hardened by torsion. Shear deformation is realized in almost all types of pressure treatment and, accordingly, makes the greatest contribution to hardening. The torsion hardening method is of practical interest for long products and torsion bars, where surface hardening is required. The effectiveness of hardening depends on the applied heat treatment.
