This document is a summary of a special issue of the Journal of Personalized Medicine titled "Diabetes Mellitus: Current Research and Future Perspectives." The issue focuses on the importance of personalized medicine in monogenic diabetes of the young (MODY) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). The collection includes five articles that investigate various cutting-edge subjects related to these topics. The articles cover a range of topics, including the prevalence of gene mutations in MODY, the use of genetic testing in personalized medicine for MODY, pharmacogenomics in T2D, the role of dyslipidemia in T2D complications, cognitive impairment in T2D, and personalized treatment options for diabetic foot ulcers. The overall conclusion is that personalized medicine is expected to become the mainstream model for MODY and T2D, providing better health management and treatment services for patients.
