A patent application has been filed for a method of assembling a pivotal bone anchor assembly for use in bone surgery, particularly spinal surgery. The bone anchor assembly includes a receiver and a shank with a retainer that can be expanded to capture the upper portion of the shank. The assembly also includes various inserts, including compression inserts, that can provide a non-floppy friction fit between the insert and the shank. The method involves aligning an insert with a receiver, rotating the insert to align the channels, and forcibly displacing the insert downward to engage with the receiver. The patent application provides detailed descriptions and diagrams of the assembly and method. [Extracted from the article] |
