A recent study conducted at George Emil Palade University of Medicine explored the effects of metformin, a drug commonly used to treat diabetes, on cognitive performance and oxidative stress markers in rats. The study found that chronic metformin treatment mitigated the negative cognitive effects of haloperidol, an antipsychotic medication. Additionally, metformin showed potential antioxidant-like effects, although further research is needed to confirm this. The findings suggest that metformin may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of behavior disorders associated with haloperidol and oxidative stress. [Extracted from the article] |
