A recent study conducted by the Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, examined the impact of a multidisciplinary review panel on the daily morphine milligram equivalents (MME) for patients with chronic pain who were receiving chronic opioid therapy (COT). The study found that referring patients to the review panel resulted in a decrease in their daily opioid dose. The research included 13 patients who were referred to the panel, and after 6 months, the median daily MME decreased by 14. The study suggests that involving a multidisciplinary team in the management of chronic pain can help reduce opioid use. [Extracted from the article] |
