Abstrakt: Researchers from Istanbul University have published a report on seizures, specifically focusing on a rare genetic disorder called Ring chromosome 20 syndrome. This disorder is characterized by non-convulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) attacks, which lead to prolonged confusional states and visual hallucinations. Seizures associated with this syndrome are typically drug-resistant, but the researchers found that treatment with lacosamide partially reduced the frequency of seizures in one patient. They also discovered hypometabolism in the frontal and parietal regions of the brain through positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging, potentially associated with the hallucinations and epileptogenesis of the syndrome.
