A recent report from Stanford University discusses the genetic predisposition to autoimmune encephalitis and paraneoplastic neurological syndromes (PNS). The study highlights the role of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) in autoimmune encephalitis and PNS, with specific associations found in certain subgroups of these conditions. Non-HLA genes have been less studied, particularly in diseases without strong HLA associations. The research suggests that larger cohorts and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) are needed to further understand the contribution of non-HLA genes in these conditions.
