A study conducted in India examined the incidence of dysrhythmias (abnormal electrical activity in the heart) in adult patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. The study found that the overall incidence of dysrhythmias was 1.2%, with factors such as age over 40, male gender, gastrointestinal and orthopedic procedures, preoperative hypertension, and general anesthesia being consistent factors. Most dysrhythmias occurred intraoperatively and were ventricular in origin. Treatment was provided to the majority of patients, with a positive response in most cases. The study concluded that it is important to identify high-risk patients and promptly address any issues under expert medical guidance. [Extracted from the article] |
