Abstrakt: A meta-analysis conducted by researchers at Tulane University found that racial and ethnic minorities are underrepresented in pain management guidelines for total joint arthroplasty. The study analyzed papers included in the 2021 Anesthesia and Analgesia in Total Joint Arthroplasty Clinical Practice Guidelines and compared them with US national census data. The findings revealed that non-White racial/ethnic groups were significantly underrepresented in the guidelines, raising concerns about the external validity and generalizability of the recommendations. The researchers emphasize the need for equitable enrollment and reporting of outcomes for all racial/ethnic groups in future guidelines. [Extracted from the article]
