Abstrakt: This article provides a personal account of the author's experiences and interactions with Mormon missionaries and scholars throughout their life. They discuss debates and discussions with Mormon missionaries during their childhood and their involvement in the field of history, particularly Mormon history. The author highlights the differences between the LDS and RLDS churches' approaches to history and the challenges faced by historians in both communities. They also mention positive relationships and conversations with LDS friends and scholars. The author reflects on their interactions with various individuals within the LDS Church during their time as President of the Community of Christ, including limited contact with LDS General Authorities and an encounter with President Hinckley. The author discusses the issue of selling the Kirtland Temple and emphasizes the importance of using history to shape the mission of the church in a meaningful way. They identify six principles from the church's history that resonate in the present, including the centrality of Jesus Christ, building community, and the worth of all individuals.
